Siemens Mobility has been awarded a contract by RATP to automate Paris Metro Line 13 using its CBTC GoA4 driverless system. This technology, already deployed on Lines 1, 4 and 14, will enable fully automated operations, increase capacity, improve reliability and optimize energy use. The project includes a new operations control center, automation equipment for 66 trains and an optional 30-year maintenance agreement.
The modernization will begin with new rolling stock in 2027, followed by the upgrade from the current semi-automated GoA2 system to the GoA4 standard. The scope covers automation of trains, control center renovation and staff training. Passengers will benefit from shorter train intervals, real-time travel information and services that adjust frequency based on demand.
Line 13, a key north-south corridor of the Paris Metro, spans 24 kilometers with 32 stations and serves more than 550,000 passengers daily. Its northern section is particularly congested. Siemens Mobility’s work will be led from its global rail automation center in Châtillon, France where over 500 engineers specialize in system design and cybersecurity.
