Merck KGaA Darmstadt Germany has introduced a new high performance computer built on Lenovo ThinkSystem servers with liquid cooling. The system is hosted in an Equinix AI-ready data center in Germany. It is designed to support research across Merck’s Life Science Healthcare and Electronics sectors. The company aims to use stronger computing power to improve drug discovery product development and materials research for next generation semiconductor chips.
The platform combines private and public cloud which allows flexible scaling based on workload needs. It supports data heavy tasks and AI models used by teams across Merck’s research units. Lenovo provided the system design with liquid cooling to improve energy use for demanding workloads. Equinix supplies the digital infrastructure needed for secure AI training data exchange and large scale computing across locations.
Equinix operates liquid cooling at many of its global data centers which helps manage performance needs while lowering energy use. This supports Merck’s long term environmental and ESG goals as computing demands continue to grow.
