Acer to Invest in Optoelectronics to Expand Its AIoT Edge Computing Portfolio

Acer has announced a joint investment with Esquarre Vision Limited in Optoelectronics, a Japan based provider of automatic identification and data capture solutions under the Opticon brand. Acer will acquire about 38 percent of the company while Esquarre will acquire around 20 percent, with the transaction expected to close in early 2026. The investment supports Opticon’s plan to expand internationally and strengthen its role as a solutions provider rather than only a device manufacturer.

For Acer, this move extends its AIoT edge computing capabilities by adding recognition and machine vision technologies that complement work done by its subsidiaries Acer and J.H. Electronics. These businesses focus on digital display engines, industrial computers, and commercial smart IoT platforms, positioning the group to offer more integrated edge computing solutions.
