Apple has announced a new investment in the restoration and sustainable management of a working redwood forest in Mendocino County, California, in partnership with The Conservation Fund. This initiative is part of Apple’s expanded Restore Fund, which now supports over two dozen conservation and regenerative agriculture projects across six continents. The Gualala River Forest project aims to protect wildlife, support local communities, and generate carbon credits through sustainable forest management.
Since launching the Restore Fund in 2021 with Goldman Sachs and Conservation International, Apple has expanded its investments globally, including projects in the U.S., Latin America, and temperate rainforests in Washington. The initiative aligns with Apple’s 2030 carbon-neutral goal, supporting nature-based carbon removal to offset residual emissions after achieving a 75% reduction compared to 2015 levels. By 2030, Apple and its suppliers aim to remove 9.6 million metric tons of carbon annually through these projects.
Apple’s conservation efforts extend worldwide, with grants supporting community-led programs, regenerative agriculture, mangrove protection in India, and tools for monitoring and verifying natural climate solutions. Past collaborations with The Conservation Fund have protected over 36,000 acres of working forests in Maine and North Carolina. Through these initiatives, Apple leverages nature as a scalable technology to combat climate change while fostering biodiversity, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental innovation.
