AWS unveiled its fifth generation Graviton5 chip at re:Invent along with new EC2 M9g instances that support a wide range of workloads. The chip brings higher core density and a larger cache which helps improve application performance and manage infrastructure cost. The M9g instances offer up to 25 percent higher performance than the earlier generation. Graviton5 includes 192 cores per chip with a cache that is five times larger which helps teams scale compute heavy tasks.
AWS noted steady adoption of Graviton based instances across its customer base. For the third year more than half of new CPU capacity added to AWS has been powered by Graviton. A large share of the top EC2 customers now use Graviton based instances for their applications across areas like software development gaming digital services and enterprise platforms. Companies such as Adobe Airbnb Atlassian Epic Games Formula 1 Pinterest SAP Siemens Snowflake and Synopsys are among those using Graviton for better price performance balance.
