At METSTRADE 2025, Bosch Engineering unveiled its new Electric Drive for Marine applications (EDM) a comprehensive plug-and-play solution designed to simplify the electrification of boats and small vessels. The EDM integrates an electric inboard motor, gearbox, inverter, onboard charger, heat exchanger, E-box with control unit, and cooling pumps into one compact, ready-to-install unit. Delivering 160 hp (continuous) and weighing approximately 180 kg, it achieves an impressive power density of 0.7 kW/kg, setting a new benchmark in its class.

The EDM system’s compact dimensions allow for straightforward integration into existing hull designs or as a retrofit replacement for combustion engines. A flexible variant with separately installed components is also available for space-constrained configurations. Bosch Engineering supports customers through every stage, from design to commissioning, leveraging its automotive expertise to ensure high reliability and quality.

The system’s thermal management also stabilizes the high-voltage battery, while a standardized communication interface enables compatibility with various battery options. Optional connectivity features allow over-the-air updates and remote monitoring.
