Dell Technologies has introduced the PowerEdge XR8720t, the industry’s first single-server solution for Open RAN and Cloud RAN deployments, designed to simplify telecom and edge infrastructure while improving performance and reducing costs. Traditionally, multi-server setups have increased complexity and expenses, but the XR8720t consolidates these functions into one system, enabling higher efficiency and scalability.
Powered by the Intel Xeon 6 SoC with integrated Intel vRAN Boost, the XR8720t supports up to 72 cores and 24x 25G ports, offering double the processing power of its predecessor. It provides enhanced timing synchronization with PTP, PTM, and SyncE, making it ideal for telecom networks requiring precision. The server’s rugged 2U modular design is NEBS Level 3 compliant, supports operation from -5°C to 55°C, and enables easy maintenance in space-constrained environments.
The XR8720t also supports AI and ML workloads, allowing telecom, retail, defense, and manufacturing enterprises to deploy agentic AI and real-time analytics at the edge. Strategic collaborations with Ericsson, Red Hat, Samsung, SUSE, and Canonical highlight its flexibility and ecosystem readiness. The Dell PowerEdge XR8720t will be available globally in Q1 2026, marking a major step forward in telecom and edge computing transformation.
