Garmin has introduced the Edge 550 and 850, two compact cycling computers designed to support riders in training, racing, and long-distance rides. Both models feature a 2.7-inch color display, responsive navigation, and battery life of up to 36 hours in saver mode or 12 hours in heavy use. They provide adaptive training plans through Garmin Cycling Coach, smart fueling alerts that recommend hydration and nutrition, and real-time weather overlays to help cyclists adjust during rides.
The devices also track cycling ability over time, offering insights into strengths and weaknesses compared to course demands. GroupRide features allow cyclists to compare performance data with others, while post-ride analysis includes gear ratio insights when paired with electronic shifting. Mountain biking profiles support detailed ride tracking with features like 5 Hz GPS for descents and split timing.
The Edge 850 includes additional functions such as a built-in speaker for alerts and navigation, touchscreen controls, Garmin Pay for quick purchases, and on-device course creation. Both models include safety tools like incident detection, LiveTrack, and compatibility with Varia cameras and radars. The Edge 550 retails for $499.99 and the Edge 850 for $599.99.
