Godrej Enterprises Group has introduced the Tested for Handlooms initiative through its AI powered front load washing machines, aimed at making care of traditional Indian fabrics easier and encouraging wider use of handlooms.

The company has tested its machines on 25 handloom fabrics from across India including Banarasi Silk, Patola Silk, Pochampally Ikat and Jamdani. The gentle wash program has been validated for up to 25 washes per fabric type. Each textile was examined visually and under 40x magnification to assess structural integrity and acceptable wear levels.

Handloom fabrics such as Kasavu, Mysore Silk, Paithani, Chikankari, Bandhani and Muga Silk are often seen as high maintenance, leading many consumers to prefer dry cleaning. Godrej’s initiative aims to reduce this barrier by offering machine wash support designed specifically for delicate weaves.
