HARMAN and Viasat have announced a collaboration to introduce in cabin voice calling over satellite connectivity, expanding reliable communication beyond traditional cellular coverage.
At MWC Barcelona 2026, HARMAN is demonstrating satellite enabled voice calling through its HARMAN Ready Connect Telematics Control Unit. The solution combines 4G, 5G and Narrowband Non Terrestrial Network satellite connectivity within a single base platform.
Viasat provides access to its Mobile Satellite Services constellation and licensed global spectrum, enabling voice communication in areas with limited or no cellular signal. The capability supports emergency assistance, roadside recovery and personal calls when drivers travel beyond terrestrial network reach.
Beyond voice, the collaboration supports messaging, emergency SOS and low data telematics such as remote vehicle diagnostics, stolen vehicle tracking and remote operations through NB NTN satellite connectivity.
The partnership also outlines a roadmap toward broadband satellite services, which could enable in cabin media, streaming and higher bandwidth applications in future software defined vehicles.
Ready Connect leverages Qualcomm Snapdragon Modem RF Gen 2 and is available for OEM integration.
