Hitachi Energy has announced the start of operations for the Matsuyama Battery Energy Storage System in Japan. The system uses Hitachi’s grid energy storage technology to store electricity and help stabilize power supply. It is connected to the local grid and can store excess energy during times of low demand, then release it when demand increases. This helps balance electricity supply and demand, improve grid reliability and support the integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind. The system is part of efforts to make energy use more efficient and sustainable. By storing surplus power and using it when needed, it can reduce the need for additional power plants and lower strain on the grid. Hitachi Energy worked with local partners to install and operate the system, which is expected to play an important role in improving energy management in the region. The project reflects Japan’s broader move toward cleaner and more flexible energy solutions
