Hitachi has expanded its strategic alliance with Google Cloud to apply AI technologies like Gemini Enterprise across operational technology (OT) fields such as energy, railways, and manufacturing. The initiative focuses on developing AI agents that improve productivity, streamline maintenance, and support frontline workers. Hitachi has established an “Agent Factory” to accelerate AI agent creation using Google Cloud’s no-code development tools and advanced AI capabilities.

Gemini, Google Cloud’s multimodal AI, can process text, images, audio, and video, making it ideal for tasks requiring physical data interpretation. By combining this with Hitachi’s domain knowledge and governance expertise, the company aims to safely integrate AI into complex and confidential on-site workflows.

As part of its “Customer Zero” strategy, Hitachi will first implement AI agents internally and then extend proven use cases to customers. One example is a proof-of-concept at Hitachi Power Solutions, where Gemini-powered AI agents verify maintenance quality on vacuum circuit breakers by comparing images before and after work. The company plans to expand these capabilities to include video-based monitoring, automated reporting, and skill transfer tools, helping improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability in social infrastructure operations.
