Instagram has introduced new tools aimed at making it easier for users to share content and stay connected with friends. The updates include reposts, location sharing through the Instagram map and a new Friends tab in Reels.
With reposts, users can share public reels and posts directly to their followers. Reposted content will appear in friends’ feeds and on a dedicated tab in the user’s profile. Original creators are always credited, giving them wider reach when others share their content.
The Instagram map now offers an option to share location with selected friends, Close Friends or no one at all. Location sharing is off by default and can be turned on or off at any time. Parents supervising teen accounts will also be notified if their teen begins sharing their location. Alongside sharing, users can explore posts, reels and stories tagged with locations to see what friends and creators are posting nearby.
The new Friends tab in Reels highlights the content friends have liked, commented on, created or reposted. This feature is now launching globally and comes with controls that let users hide their activity or mute updates from specific people.
