Meta has announced Candle, a new 8,000 km submarine cable connecting Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore by 2028. With a capacity of 570 Tbps, Candle will be the largest-capacity cable system in the Asia-Pacific , supporting over 580 million people. Meta also shared updates on its other subsea projects Bifrost, Echo, and Apricot which together strengthen intra-Asia connectivity and provide new transpacific routes to the Americas.
Bifrost now links Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the U.S., adding 260 Tbps of redundancy, with future expansion to Mexico. Echo delivers 260 Tbps between Guam and California, while Apricot offers 290 Tbps across Japan, Taiwan, and Guam, with extensions planned to Southeast Asia.
These efforts, alongside global initiatives like Project Waterworth and 2Africa, aim to enhance global digital infrastructure, boost resilience, and deliver faster, more reliable access to Meta’s platforms, AI technologies, and online services for billions across APAC and beyond.
