Kaga Toshiba Forest, maintained by Kaga Toshiba Electronics Corporation a Toshiba Devices & Storage Corporation Group company has been officially recognized by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment as a nationally certified sustainably managed natural site. This recognition, made under the Act on Promoting Activities to Enhance Regional Biodiversity, highlights Kaga Toshiba’s commitment to preserving local ecosystems and biodiversity.
The initiative began in 2013, when Kaga Toshiba leased 3.33 hectares of land in Tatsunokuchi Hillside Park, Ishikawa Prefecture, to conserve the surrounding satoyama environment. Employees and their families have since collaborated with the Nomi Satoyama Fan Club and local authorities to maintain and protect the forest. In 2025, under Japan’s new biodiversity act, Kaga Toshiba developed an “enhancement activity implementation plan,” which was certified by the government as part of its “nature coexistence site” initiative.
This certification places Kaga Toshiba Forest among Japan’s officially recognized soon to be registered in the global OECM database. The project supports the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s 30by30 target, contributing to global conservation goals. Toshiba Devices & Storage Group continues to promote environmental collaboration with local communities to achieve a nature-positive future.
