LG Electronics, in partnership with King Saud University (KSU), Pusan National University (PNU) and Shaker Group, has announced plans to set up a research facility in Saudi Arabia. The new lab will focus on testing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems designed for tropical climates.
This move follows LG’s earlier efforts in 2024 to set up cold-climate research labs in the US, Europe and China under the Consortium for Advanced Heat Pump Research (CAHR). The Saudi Arabian site will be LG’s first dedicated facility for hot weather testing.
At this lab, LG aims to gather real-world data to better understand how HVAC products perform in high-temperature conditions. KSU will provide the test site and, along with PNU, will handle research and data analysis. LG and PNU already collaborate on HVAC technologies in South Korea. Shaker Group, a long-time LG partner, will help with system installation and monitoring.
The new facility will test LG products such as the Multi V system and wall-mounted air conditioners, along with new AI-based features tailored for tropical use. Results from the lab will be shared with regional academic institutions once research is complete.
