Meta has acquired PlayAI a startup that specializes in creating AI-generated, human-like voices. The entire PlayAI team will be joining Meta as part of the deal although the financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

PlayAI is known for its voice-cloning tools that produce natural-sounding speech across multiple languages. Their technology focuses on delivering realistic audio. This acquisition is expected to integrate PlayAI’s capabilities into broader voice based applications but specific product plans have not been announced yet.

This move is part of Meta’s larger effort to expand its AI capabilities. The company has been actively building its AI talent and research teams, including hiring from other major AI labs and creating dedicated research groups focused on advanced technologies like superintelligence.
