Microsoft has launched Copilot Mode in its Edge browser, aiming to change how users interact with the web. Unlike traditional browsing, which relies heavily on manual tab management and repeated searches, Copilot Mode introduces AI tools to streamline navigation and assist with tasks.
When enabled, Copilot Mode provides a simplified new tab interface with a single input box that combines chat, search, and navigation. It can interpret user intent, understand open tabs in context, and help complete tasks like comparing options or locating specific information. It also supports voice commands for hands-free use, such as opening tabs or finding content on a page.
Users can allow Copilot to access tab information for better suggestions, and future updates may expand this to include browsing history and credentials for more advanced actions, like booking services. The tool is designed to work in the background without disrupting the current page, offering features like real-time translation and data summaries.
Copilot Mode is optional and can be turned on or off at any time through Edge settings. It’s currently available for free on Edge for Windows and Mac in supported markets.
