Trans Regio Deutsche Regionalbahn has ordered three Mireo Smart trains from Smart Train Lease GmbH for the new RB 32 line in the Ahr Valley. The contract was signed on August 19 and delivery of the first train is scheduled just six weeks later, on October 1, 2025. Passenger service is set to begin on December 14, 2025. An eight-year service agreement covering digital maintenance and spare parts has also been signed.
The Mireo Smart trains reach speeds of up to 160 km/h and provide 214 seats, including 12 in first class. They include large multi-purpose areas for bicycles, onboard Wi-Fi and power outlets at every seat. A high-frequency window system ensures reliable mobile connections. The RB 32 line will run electrically from Ahrbrück via Remagen to Koblenz and Boppard, giving the region a direct link to the Middle Rhine.
This project supports the rebuilding and electrification of the Ahr Valley Railway after the 2021 floods. Around 20 new train drivers will be recruited locally. Maintenance will be handled in Koblenz with Siemens Mobility providing digital fleet monitoring and spare parts support. The RB 32 line marks both an expansion of Trans Regio’s services and a milestone for the Smart Train Lease model.
