Mitsubishi Electric announced that its ME Innovation Fund has invested in Pale Blue a Japan-based startup creating propulsion systems for small satellites that use water as a propellant. This marks the fund’s 13th investment.

With satellite launches increasing globally, demand is rising for propulsion systems that are safe, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly. Pale Blue, founded in 2020 at the University of Tokyo, has developed proprietary water-based propulsion technology using low-pressure water vaporization and low-power plasma generation. Water offers safety, affordability, and sustainability advantages over traditional propellants. The company has already completed multiple in-orbit demonstrations and is building its own production capabilities.

Through this investment Mitsubishi Electric aims to strengthen technical collaboration with Pale Blue, enhance its space business competitiveness and promote sustainable space utilization.
