NEP Australia has introduced Sennheiser’s Spectera wireless system across several major productions to address rising challenges in RF congestion remote production and on site setup complexity. Known for delivering sports and studio content including AFL NRL The Chase and major boxing events NEP needed a solution that simplified frequency management and reduced equipment load. Spectera combines microphones IEMs and control data into a single RF channel which cuts setup time and eases planning. The system includes a 1U base station compact bodypacks and DAD antennas with remote monitoring through LinkDesk and the Spectera WebUI.
After initial testing NEP deployed Spectera on productions like The Chase Fox Footy and AFL broadcasts. Setup time dropped from hours to under 40 minutes. Engineers can now check battery RF performance and device status remotely supporting NEP’s broader move toward centralised remote workflows. Trials in live sports including boxing events showed reliable performance even in crowded RF environments.
Spectera also fits into NEP’s multi site plans with easier operation for A1 and A2 teams. Future work includes using Spectera in OB environments and integrating SMPTE 2110 for direct IP based routing. NEP says the system will help create more flexible connected broadcast workflows.
