Nokia has announced its collaboration with NTT DOCOMO to introduce the MantaRay SON Self-Organizing Networks solution into DOCOMO’s multi-vendor LTE and 5G radio access network. This deployment brings autonomous network capabilities to support DOCOMO’s expanding 5G infrastructure. By integrating MantaRay SON with DOCOMO’s operational systems, the companies aim to enhance network automation, streamline processes, and improve service delivery for users.
MantaRay SON addresses the growing complexity of dense 5G environments by automating routine network tasks across thousands of sites and cells. Its capabilities include automated planning, provisioning, and verification, enabling networks to adjust configurations without manual intervention. This closed-loop approach supports consistent performance and operational efficiency. The solution is also aligned with DOCOMO’s goals for higher levels of network autonomy and improved coordination across systems.
The partnership will evolve to include expanded multi-vendor support, integration with MantaRay AutoPilot, and enhanced intelligence through Non-RT RIC features. According to NTT DOCOMO, the solution will contribute to improved customer experience and support more open network initiatives. Nokia views this collaboration as an important step in advancing AI-driven network management and strengthening operational efficiency in Japan’s telecom sector.
