Nokia has partnered with ST Engineering and First One Systems to deploy an IP/MPLS-based Backbone Transmission Network (BTN) for the Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited’s (BEM) upcoming Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Orange Line. Expected to be completed by 2030, the deployment aims to enhance operational safety, reliability, and efficiency across Bangkok’s expanding rail system.
The 35.9 km Orange Line, spanning both underground and elevated sections, will benefit from Nokia’s high-capacity IP/MPLS solution, designed to support mission-critical railway communications such as CCTV surveillance, SCADA, passenger information systems, radio communications, and public announcements. Nokia’s infrastructure will include the 7250 Interconnect Router, 7210 Service Access System, and Nokia Service Platform, offering robust, low-latency, and secure connectivity with real-time network visibility.
The project will feature dual 10G and 40G BTNs connecting all stations with the Operations Control Center (OCC), streamlining network management and maintenance. By combining Nokia’s proven network expertise, ST Engineering’s system integration capabilities, and First One Systems’ local experience, the collaboration ensures the deployment meets international safety and performance standards. This partnership marks a key step in Bangkok’s rail digital transformation, enhancing passenger experience and operational resilience.
