Nokia’s Mobile Broadband Index Report 2025 highlights the rapid growth of 5G across the Middle East and Africa , forecasting 605 million 5G subscriptions by 2030 representing 25% of total mobile connections and 53% of mobile data traffic. The report attributes this growth to strong operator investments and government-led digital transformation initiatives driving IoT, smart cities, and enterprise solutions.
Mikko Lavanti, Senior Vice President of Mobile Networks, MEA at Nokia, emphasized that 5G will be the catalyst for next-generation use cases such as autonomous transport, smart agriculture, and advanced healthcare supported by edge computing and AI integration. The report also notes a steady expansion of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), projected to rise from 15% in 2023 to 35% by 2030, offering faster, cost-effective broadband alternatives to fiber.
By 2030, 82% of all mobile connections in MEA are expected to operate on 4G or 5G networks, with the GCC leading 5G adoption at 91% of subscriptions. Nokia’s findings reinforce 5G’s pivotal role in enabling digital economies, enhancing productivity, and delivering innovative, data-driven services across the MEA region.
