Nokia has signed a three-year agreement with Telecom Italia (TIM) to upgrade and expand TIM’s 5G network across additional regions in Italy. The partnership aims to improve coverage, enhance network capacity, and support TIM’s efforts to reduce the digital divide, particularly in smaller towns and rural communities. The project also aligns with TIM’s sustainability goals, with Nokia supplying energy-efficient and AI-enabled equipment from its AirScale portfolio.

The deployment will include Habrok 32 Massive MIMO radios, Pandion FDD remote radio heads, and Nokia’s Lodos baseband card, all powered by the ReefShark chipset designed to improve performance and lower energy use. Nokia will also broaden the use of its MantaRay SON platform, which applies AI and automation to boost network efficiency and overall user experience.

Both organizations highlighted the strategic value of the partnership. TIM emphasized the role of advanced connectivity in enabling industrial transformation and supporting national development. Nokia stated that the collaboration will help TIM expand coverage and establish a foundation for future AI-focused services. The agreement also covers deployment, maintenance, and support services that integrate AI to improve operational efficiency.
