Nokia has partnered with Indonesian digital infrastructure company PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (SURGE) to set up a new subsea network connecting Jakarta and Singapore. The network is designed to improve regional data center connections and increase access to affordable broadband for people across Indonesia.
The project uses Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform to enable high-speed optical data transmission. This setup will help Surge expand internet access to more than 40 million households, especially in areas with limited connectivity.
The new connection supports Surge’s broader plan to build a stronger fiber-based broadband network. The initial capacity of the link is 20.8 terabits, allowing Surge to provide high-speed internet services, including up to 800 gigabit Ethernet (800GE), to both large and mid-sized businesses.
Along with high capacity Nokia’s solution is designed to save space and reduce power use, helping Surge grow its network. This partnership aims to improve connectivity across Indonesia and strengthen digital infrastructure in the region.
