OpenAI will open its first office in India by the end of 2025, choosing New Delhi as its base. The company has already established a legal entity in India and started hiring local staff to build their team.
This move makes business sense for OpenAI since India is their second-largest market after the United States. The company reports that ChatGPT users in India have grown four times in the past year and India has the largest number of student users globally.
This expansion comes shortly after OpenAI introduced a cheaper ChatGPT subscription plan priced at $0.60/INR 399 per month for Indian users. The company faces competition from Google’s Gemini and other AI startups in the Indian market.
