Optus has partnered with Nokia to improve the reliability of its voice services by upgrading to a cloud-native platform. This move is part of Optus’ plan to deliver more efficient 5G voice services to over 10 million users in Australia.

Nokia will provide its Cloud Native Communication Suite (CNCS), which supports better automation and reduces the need for manual work. The system will be deployed using a hybrid cloud setup that includes Red Hat OpenShift and makes use of Optus’ public cloud resources for added resilience.

This change also means Optus is replacing its previous vendor, strengthening its ongoing partnership with Nokia. The new platform, based on Nokia’s IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem), is designed to run efficiently on the cloud with less energy use.
