Following the close of Expo 2025 Osaka, Panasonic has begun a large-scale initiative to reuse and recycle materials from its “The Land of NOMO” pavilion, achieving a reuse and recycling rate of over 99%. Designed from the outset for circularity, the pavilion incorporated materials such as steel, copper, concrete, and organdy fabric that could be reclaimed, repurposed, or upcycled. Panasonic collaborated with partners including Obayashi Corporation, Tokyo Steel, and Mitsubishi Materials to create a circular ecosystem that spans from design to post-event dismantling.
Steel and copper components will be reintroduced into Panasonic’s production cycle, while concrete and other materials are being reused in new facilities such as Obayashi’s “Open Lab 3” and Toho Leo’s exhibition space for the 2027 International Horticultural Expo. Even decorative elements and uniforms are being repurposed through educational partnerships, including collaborations with Ueda College of Fashion.
This initiative reflects Panasonic’s “GREEN IMPACT” vision and ongoing commitment to circular manufacturing. By applying a co-creation model to architecture, Panasonic aims to establish practical frameworks for resource circulation and foster awareness of sustainability among future generations.
