Panasonic Corporation announced study results showing that its nanoe technology, which uses hydroxyl radicals contained in water, can inactivate major mycotoxins linked to health risks. The research was conducted under the supervision of the Applied Biotechnology Institute in Vietnam, a region with hot and humid conditions where mold growth is common.

Mycotoxins are toxins produced by mold and can cause serious health effects if ingested or inhaled, according to the World Health Organization. Panasonic collected air samples from homes in Vietnam and identified mold genera capable of producing mycotoxins.

Laboratory testing showed that nanoe technology inactivated more than 90 percent of three representative mycotoxins in a 45 liter test chamber within five minutes. In a larger space closer to a real living environment, more than 90 percent inactivation of aflatoxin B1 was observed after extended exposure. The results were obtained under specific test conditions and do not represent performance in actual living spaces.

Panasonic stated it will continue developing nanoe technology as part of its efforts to support cleaner and more comfortable indoor environments.
