Samsung Electronics introduced the Galaxy Z Fold7 at Galaxy Unpacked 2025 in New York on 9 July. The device is now the slimmest in the Galaxy Fold lineup, with a folded thickness of 8.9 mm and an unfolded thickness of 4.2 mm. Compared to the original Galaxy Fold in 2019, which was 17.1 mm thick when folded, the series has seen a steady reduction in size over six generations with a 26% drop in the past year alone.
Each generation has brought structural improvements. In 2020, the Galaxy Z Fold2 introduced the Hideaway Hinge for smoother folding. By 2022, the Fold4 used a linear hinge design, making it lighter and thinner. The Fold5 in 2023 featured a new Flex Hinge that allowed for a more even fold with no visible gap. The Fold6 launched in 2024, included a symmetrical dual rail hinge and improved angle flexibility.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 adds a new Armor FlexHinge, designed to be both strong and compact. It also features a larger cover display (6.5 inches) and an 8.0-inch main screen when unfolded. These changes aim to improve usability while keeping the design slim and portable.
