Samsung Electronics and TELUS announced the deployment of Canada’s first commercial Radio Access Network Intelligent Controller (RIC), advancing the shift to AI-powered, software-based networks. The RIC, a core element of Open RAN architecture, uses AI and automation to enhance performance, reduce costs, improve energy efficiency, and optimize resource management.
Building on their 2024 launch of Canada’s first commercial virtualized and O-RAN network, this milestone deepens TELUS and Samsung’s collaboration. The deployment enables TELUS to integrate AI into network operations, providing greater intelligence and automation across vRAN and O-RAN infrastructure, while maintaining flexibility with multi-vendor support.
Samsung’s CognitiV Network Operations Suite (NOS) will supply applications including the KPI Anomaly Detector and RAN Anomaly Insight for issue detection, Energy Saving Manager for traffic prediction and energy efficiency, and Load Balancing Manager for resource optimization. These tools allow TELUS to proactively manage network performance while ensuring reliability and sustainability.
