Samsung Electronics has introduced the latest evolution of its Onyx Cinema LED display at Lotte Cinema Sillim’s Gwang-eum LED theater in Seoul, marking the first major upgrade to the technology in eight years. The new Onyx system replaces traditional projectors with self-emissive LED panels that deliver 4K resolution, 100% DCI-P3 color accuracy, and peak brightness levels of up to 300 nits ensuring consistent contrast, deep blacks, and lifelike visuals across the entire screen.
The Gwang-eum LED theater features an 11.5-meter-wide Onyx screen, made possible by the technology’s modular scalability, offering audiences a fully immersive and distortion-free viewing experience from any seat. Beyond film screenings, the display’s brightness and versatility enable theaters to host live broadcasts, concerts, and other multimedia events.
Feedback from audiences and industry professionals highlights how Onyx enhances visual storytelling by preserving every detail and color nuance as intended by creators. With studios such as Pixar mastering films specifically for Onyx screens, Lotte Cinema continues to expand its LED theater lineup. Through Onyx, Samsung aims to redefine the in-theater experience, combining visual precision and emotional engagement to rekindle the immersive magic of cinema in the digital era.
