Siemens Smart Infrastructure has partnered with Microsoft to improve how building-related IoT data is accessed and used. The collaboration connects Siemens’ Building X platform with Microsoft Azure IoT Operations, helping organizations manage data from building systems like heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), sensors, and actuators more efficiently.

The integration aims to make it easier for companies to use data from various devices by reducing the time and effort needed to connect them to the cloud. This helps in monitoring things like temperature, air quality and pressure, and supports better decision-making for energy use, maintenance and space management. It also allows organizations to create their own use cases based on their needs, such as tracking energy consumption or improving room usage.

The system supports fast onboarding of devices and smooth data exchange, giving customers flexibility in designing their IoT setup without being limited to a single vendor. It uses established open standards like W3C Web of Things and OPC UA, which help ensure compatibility, security and ease of access. Both Siemens and Microsoft are involved in shaping these standards through industry groups, aiming to make IoT systems more useful and accessible across different industries and building types.
