Siemens AG has completed the purchase of the industrial drive technology business from ebm-papst. This business will now be part of Siemens under the name “Mechatronic Systems.”
The acquired business has around 650 employees and offers smart, compact drive systems. These are used in things like driverless transport vehicles and other low-voltage industrial applications. This move strengthens Siemens’ existing automation offerings and is expected to help the company expand into new areas, especially in battery-powered drive and robotics solutions.
The newly added products include two main types of motors:
Simotics E-1EE1: These are brushless internal rotor motors suited for battery-powered systems used in transport, storage, and sorting.
Simotics E-1EV1: These are brushless external rotor motors known for their small size and energy efficiency, mainly used in warehouse and logistics setups.
Both types are available in 24V and 48V versions and can be combined with special transmission systems designed to work only with Simotics E motors.
Another important product is the Simotics E ArgoDrive, a steering system made for guiding automated vehicles. It comes in three versions:-
Light, Standard, and Heavy and helps move these vehicles safely in all directions, even with heavy loads.
These technologies will support Siemens’ goals to make factories more energy-efficient, flexible, and digital. They will also be part of the Siemens Xcelerator platform, which brings together hardware, software and digital services.
