Siemens has launched the Sinamics S220, a next-generation drive system designed to set new standards in industrial automation. Building on the success of the Sinamics S120, the S220 integrates seamlessly into the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, offering advanced connectivity, simulation, and analysis capabilities to support digitalized industrial processes.

At its core, the CU320-3 control unit delivers high-performance multi-axis control, managing up to 12 axes with a built-in multicore processor and high-speed Drive-Cliq-Express interface. Innovative sensorless control ensures near-encoder precision, improved energy efficiency, and robust operation. The system supports predictive maintenance through high-frequency field data transmission and virtual commissioning via DriveSim Designer, enhancing engineering workflows. Remote operation is enabled via Smart Drive Interface and optional Smart WiFi adapter.

The Sinamics S220 offers flexibility and scalability, with air-cooled motor modules supporting 3AC 380–480V and currents from 3A to 1,518A, expandable through parallel connections. Regenerative active infeeds and universal modules allow adaptable power and functional configurations.

Safety and cybersecurity are integrated at the highest level with SIL 3 certification, a fast 4ms safety cycle, offline parameterizable safety functions, user access control, and encrypted data management, ensuring secure and resilient operation.

Sustainability is a key focus: compact design, resource-saving materials, high reparability, and recyclability reduce carbon impact. Industrial Edge applications monitor energy use and CO₂ emissions, and the ISO 14021 Environmental Product Declaration highlights its lifecycle environmental performance. Sinamics S220 exemplifies a future-ready, efficient, and sustainable drive solution for Industry 4.0.
