The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) is upgrading its video surveillance network across more than 50 train stations using Nokia’s Optical LAN and IP/MPLS solutions. This project, carried out in collaboration with Hitachi Rail, will strengthen the CCTV system that supports safety and real-time monitoring across Singapore’s busy railway network serving millions of daily passengers.
LTA’s existing infrastructure required greater capacity to handle the growing number of network cameras and higher bandwidth needs. Nokia’s fiber-based Optical LAN provides a more efficient alternative to traditional copper networks, requiring up to 70% less cabling and 40% less power. It includes hardened Optical Network Units (ONUs) and future-ready Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) capable of supporting speeds up to 25Gb/s.
The IP/MPLS solution further enhances data transmission, allowing video feeds to be securely sent to LTA’s Operations Control Center for monitoring and analysis. Together, these technologies improve safety management, operational efficiency, and future scalability for Singapore’s rail transport system.
