Sona Comstar enters China EV market through joint venture with JNT

Sona Comstar has signed a binding term sheet with China-based Jinnaite Machinery Co. Ltd (JNT) to set up a joint venture that will manufacture and supply driveline systems for automotive OEMs in China and globally. Sona Comstar will invest $12 million and hold a 60% stake, while JNT will contribute $8 million worth of assets and business. The JV is expected to begin operations in the second half of FY26 and already has orders from both EV and non-EV customers.

This move marks Sona Comstar’s entry into the Chinese EV market, the largest in the world, accounting for two-thirds of global EV sales in 2024. The JV combines Sona Comstar’s expertise in driveline system design and precision engineering with JNT’s advanced casting technologies and local networks.

The partnership aligns with Sona Comstar’s goal to strengthen its presence in fast-growing Asian markets like China, India, Japan and South Korea. It also supports its plans to grow further in North America and Europe. The venture benefits from JNT’s strong relationships with Chinese OEMs its experience with national standards and its recognized green foundry operations.
