Sony Corporation has acquired a majority stake in STATSports Group, a company known for its athlete monitoring and performance analysis technologies. Founded in 2008, STATSports provides wearable tracking devices used by over 800 sports teams, including top football clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and PSG, as well as national teams and professional leagues across football, rugby and baseball. Its devices capture over 70 real-time performance metrics using GPS, heart rate and motion sensors.

This acquisition brings STATSports under Sony’s sports technology portfolio, which already includes Hawk-Eye Innovations, KinaTrax and Beyond Sports. Combining STATSports’ wearable tracking with Sony’s optical tracking and data visualization tools will help create a more complete solution for athlete performance analysis. It also expands Sony’s reach into new markets focused on sports performance, data analytics and fan engagement. The integration aims to offer advanced tools for teams to understand and improve player performance while enhancing data-driven sports experiences.
