Sony Group and Bandai Namco have signed a strategic business alliance to strengthen their collaboration in entertainment. As part of this deal, Sony will acquire 16 million shares of Bandai Namco from existing shareholders for about 68 billion yen. This will give Sony a 2.5% stake in the company.
The alliance focuses on expanding the global fan base for Japanese IP like anime and manga. Sony and Bandai Namco aim to combine their strengths to increase fan engagement and create new entertainment experiences. The move comes as demand for anime continues to grow worldwide.
Both companies have worked together in the past on games, anime and music. With this agreement, they plan to go further by co-developing and promoting new content. Bandai Namco’s original IP will play a central role, while Sony will support through its anime production, video distribution and merchandising capabilities.
They also intend to work together on technology and services for creators and explore joint investments in fan-focused platforms. The alliance marks a deeper step in their ongoing collaboration, aiming to deliver new types of entertainment and strengthen the value of Japanese IP globally.
