Sony Semiconductor Solutions has announced its participation in the upcoming ITS World Congress, where it will present examples of its edge AI sensing technologies being implemented in two U.S. cities: Lakewood, Colorado, and San José, California.

These deployments demonstrate how Sony’s vision sensor technologies are being used to support urban mobility initiatives, improve traffic management, and address pedestrian and vehicle safety concerns.

Urban Mobility Projects in Focus

In Lakewood, Sony’s intelligent vision sensors are being used in a traffic safety initiative aimed at monitoring high-risk intersections and mid-block corridors. The sensors provide real-time detection of vehicles and pedestrians, even in low-light or adverse weather conditions. This data supports city efforts to reduce collisions and near-miss incidents, with a focus on improving conditions for vulnerable road users as part of Lakewood’s Vision Zero strategy.

In San José, Sony is collaborating with the city on a broader traffic management pilot. The project uses edge AI-enabled cameras to collect and analyze traffic flow data in real time, helping city planners gain insights into traffic patterns and road usage. The data is intended to inform infrastructure planning and improve overall traffic efficiency.
