Tesla officially launched in India today by opening its first Experience Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. The showroom covers around 4,000 square feet and is designed to introduce Indian customers to Tesla’s electric vehicles. This marks Tesla’s first physical presence in the country after years of speculation and discussions with the government.

As part of the launch, Tesla has brought in six units of the Model Y SUV from its Shanghai factory. Five are standard rear-wheel drive models and one is the long-range variant. Customer deliveries are expected to begin in the coming weeks.

Tesla has listed two versions of the Model Y for the Indian market. The standard rear-wheel drive version offers a WLTP range of about 500 km and is priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The long-range version, offering approximately 622 km of range, is priced at ₹67.89 lakh. The optional Full Self-Driving (FSD) package can be added later through a software update for ₹6 lakh.

Tesla has received the necessary trade certificates to allow test drives and sales in Maharashtra and is in the process of setting up local service centers. The company is also hiring for roles across sales, service, logistics and software including positions related to its Autopilot system.
