Toshiba Corporation, Vanguard Industries, and Kyowa Shipping have jointly established Radiant Technologies Inc. to deliver electricity to unelectrified areas in Oceania’s small island developing states. The first phase of the energy-sharing service will begin in Vanuatu, building on Toshiba’s earlier “Delighting Everyone Project,” which tested community-based energy access through rechargeable lanterns, solar batteries, and digital payments. The pilot demonstrated that small local shops could operate as charging hubs using solar power systems and app-based transactions.
Radiant Technologies will expand this model by providing renewable, shared energy services to remote communities where building traditional infrastructure is difficult. The initiative aims to support local development by improving daily living conditions and contributing to national electrification strategies such as Vanuatu’s National Energy Roadmap.
Each partner brings specific expertise: Toshiba provides energy management, IoT capabilities, and digital services; Vanguard Industries contributes venture-building experience to support business development; and Kyowa Shipping offers logistics support through its established networks in Oceania. The company plans to extend operations within Vanuatu and explore opportunities in other developing regions. The collaboration seeks to establish a practical approach to energy access that involves local communities and aligns with long-term regional development goals.
