Siemens Direct Current Portfolio Advances Efficient Power Distribution
Siemens has introduced a new portfolio of direct current (DC) protection and switching solutions aimed at improving efficiency and reliability in industrial and infrastructure applications.
The portfolio includes the SENTRON 3QD2 semiconductor circuit breaker and the SIRIUS 3RF5 solid-state switching device. These technologies enable ultra-fast interruption of faults in microseconds, offering improved protection for systems such as data centers, manufacturing facilities, and battery storage.
The solutions support the transition from alternating current to direct current systems, which are more efficient for renewable energy integration and reduce energy conversion losses.
Siemens states that DC systems can lower peak power consumption by up to 80 percent and reduce material usage for cabling by up to 50 percent.
The portfolio is designed to deliver compact, maintenance-free systems with improved durability and operational performance. It will be showcased at Hannover Messe 2026.
