Siemens SBB Double Deck Trains Order Supports Capacity and Sustainable Rail
Siemens Mobility has signed a contract with Swiss Federal Railways to deliver 116 six car Desiro DoSto double deck trains, with an option for up to 84 additional units. The total order value is around 2 billion Swiss francs.
The trains will be deployed on the Zurich S Bahn network and in Western Switzerland starting in 2031. Built on the Desiro HC platform, the trains are designed for high capacity commuter services with around 540 seats, along with 30% more standing space and 10% more seating compared to previous models.
The trains include low floor access, upgraded passenger information systems and onboard power outlets for devices and e bikes. They are also designed for improved comfort with enhanced seating and interior layout.
Sustainability features include energy efficient traction systems, heat pump technology and intelligent energy management. The car bodies use 100% CO2 reduced aluminium.
The project includes local testing, commissioning and maintenance in Switzerland, supporting long term rail infrastructure development.
