Microsoft has appointed Asha Sharma as the Chief Executive Officer of Xbox, marking a leadership transition as the company continues to integrate artificial intelligence across its gaming and platform ecosystem.
In her new role, Sharma will oversee Xbox’s overall strategy, with a focus on AI-driven product development, platform innovation, and responsible technology integration across gaming experiences and services.
Prior to this appointment, Sharma served as President, CoreAI Product at Microsoft, where she led the company’s global AI portfolio. Her responsibilities included AI models, applications, agents, responsible AI frameworks, and developer tools. She has also held senior leadership roles within Microsoft’s AI Platform organisation, contributing to the scaling of large technology platforms and product innovation initiatives.
Outside Microsoft, Sharma currently serves as a Board Member at The Home Depot and Coupang. Earlier in her career, she was Chief Operating Officer at Instacart, where she played a key role in guiding the company through its IPO and path to profitability, overseeing a business with over $30 billion in gross merchandise value.
Sharma has also led large-scale product and engineering teams at Meta, where she was responsible for Messenger and Instagram Direct. Additionally, she was involved in building Porch Group through its public market debut.
With experience spanning artificial intelligence, commerce, social platforms, and marketplace ecosystems, Sharma brings a broad operational and product leadership background to her new role at Xbox.
