ASUS has outlined the concept of “AI City” as the next phase in the evolution of smart cities where artificial intelligence is integrated into urban systems to support real time decision making and coordinated public services.
Traditional smart city initiatives focused on collecting data through sensors and digital infrastructure. AI City expands this approach by using AI to analyze conditions predict demand and automate responses across areas such as mobility energy public safety and citizen services.
The model introduces a five layer architecture designed to support large scale AI deployment. These layers include sovereign compute infrastructure locally controlled AI models platform level integration services application level city operations and an innovation layer for ecosystem collaboration.
ASUS said the framework also emphasizes “Urban Sovereign AI” which allows cities to control their data computing resources and AI models while maintaining privacy security and governance.
In 2026 ASUS partnered with Foxconn and ecosystem partners to develop integrated AI City solutions for governments worldwide. The initiative aims to help cities move from pilot projects to citywide AI driven services.
Early deployment areas include adaptive traffic systems energy management public safety monitoring healthcare coordination and digital citizen services.
