Bosch has officially begun real-world operation of a fuel-cell electric truck at its Nuremberg plant, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward climate-friendly logistics. The truck, powered by Bosch’s in-house Fuel-Cell Power Module , enables fully electric operation by converting hydrogen and oxygen into water and electricity achieving a climate-neutral powertrain when using renewable hydrogen. Operated by logistics partner Schäflein and leased from Hylane, the 40-ton Iveco truck will cover around 12,000 kilometers annually, reducing CO₂ emissions and supporting Bavaria’s Hydrogen Strategy 2.0.

The vehicle’s five hydrogen tanks hold up to 70 kg of hydrogen at 700 bar, powering a system output of 400 kW and offering a range of up to 800 km. It also features short refueling times comparable to diesel trucks and stable performance in varying temperatures. Beyond reducing emissions, Bosch aims to collect operational data to enhance future powertrain systems such as the Compact 190 and Compact 300.

This initiative reinforces Bosch’s broader hydrogen strategy, encompassing fuel cells, hydrogen engines, and electrolyzer technologies all part of its effort to advance a sustainable hydrogen economy in Europe.
