Garmin has announced the course routes for its upcoming Marathon Series in Tucson, Arizona. The event includes a full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K, all starting and finishing in downtown Tucson, near the State of Arizona Governmental Offices.
The routes were planned in collaboration with Run Tucson. They showcase the Sonoran Desert landscape, local parks and mountain views. The courses are designed to pass landmarks like Tumamoc Hill, Greasewood Park, the University of Arizona and Randolph Golf Campus. The full marathon has a total elevation gain of about 948 feet, mostly in the first 5 miles. The course is currently awaiting certification to qualify runners for events like the Boston Marathon. The cut-off time is 6.5 hours.
Half marathon runners follow the same path as full marathoners until they reach Painted Hills Trails Park, then take a different route for two miles before rejoining the main course. Their ascent is 738 feet.
The 10K and 5K routes also pass the Mercado District and follow sections of the Tucson Loop, a 138-mile paved path. The 10K and 5K feature milder elevation gains of 180 and 69 feet.
