Stricter Safety Criteria Highlight Hyundai’s Focus on Occupant Protection

Hyundai Motor Company has earned seven safety awards for its 2026 vehicle lineup from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The company received six TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards and one TOP SAFETY PICK, reflecting performance under updated and more stringent safety criteria. The TOP SAFETY PICK+ models include the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 9, Sonata, Kona, Tucson and Santa Fe, while the Elantra received the TOP SAFETY PICK rating.

The 2026 evaluation introduced stricter requirements, particularly for rear-seat passenger protection and crash avoidance systems. Vehicles must now achieve a “good” rating in the moderate front overlap test and meet enhanced standards across multiple crash scenarios and pedestrian safety.

Hyundai’s vehicles are equipped with SmartSense safety features, including lane assist systems, collision avoidance and driver attention alerts, supporting overall occupant safety.
